Smart Links vs Link in Bio for Musicians: How to Use Both in Q4

A smart link sells one release. A link-in-bio page holds your whole career. Learn when musicians need each and how to combine them for a Q4 2026 release.

If you have a single, EP or album coming out this quarter, you will see two kinds of links recommended: a release smart link and a link-in-bio page. They are often presented as competitors, but they do different jobs. Most artists releasing music in Q4 get the best result from both, with the smart link inside the bio page.

This guide explains what each link does, where ManyLinks fits and where it does not, and how to plan around the dates that matter from October to December 2026.

A smart link is built around one release. A fan taps it and lands on a page listing the services where that track or album is available. They can choose the one they use. Feature.fm's artist pricing page describes its release smart links as links that route fans to your music on their preferred music service (Feature.fm pricing, as of October 2026).

Smart-link services also host most pre-save campaigns. Their reports show which services fans chose for each release and, where supported, how many pre-saved. A few examples, as of October 2026:

  • Feature.fm lists a Free artist plan with unlimited release smart links and pre-save links, limited to one pre-save service and 7 days of insight data. Paid artist plans add more pre-save services and longer history (Feature.fm pricing).
  • Linkfire says every plan includes unlimited release, pre-release and bio links, and offers a free trial that reverts to a limited free account if you do not continue (Linkfire pricing).
  • ToneDen still loads at toneden.io as of October 2026 and describes itself as automated social marketing. We could not confirm its current smart-link and pre-save features from its public pages, so check them directly before you rely on it.

Each smart link covers one release, so every campaign brings a new link. If it is the only link in your Instagram or TikTok bio, fans looking for tour dates, merch or your back catalogue will not find them there.

A link-in-bio page is built around you, not one release. It keeps the same URL for years and holds everything a fan might want: the current release, tour dates, merch, Bandcamp, a mailing list, videos and a booking contact. It belongs in your social profiles because changing the link every few weeks is a chore.

Feature.fm includes one artist bio link on every artist plan, and Linkfire includes bio links on every plan, as of October 2026 (Feature.fm, Linkfire). If you already pay for one of them, check whether its bio link covers what you need. A general link-in-bio tool makes more sense when you want more control over layout, rich blocks for other platforms, or a custom domain.

ManyLinks is a link-in-bio page with a grid of blocks. For musicians, the relevant parts are:

  • Spotify blocks. Paste a Spotify track, album, artist, playlist or podcast URL and the block shows it as a card or an embed. Previews depend on what Spotify provides for that item. The block shows the content you linked, not what you are listening to right now. Cached details refresh about every 7 days on Free and every 24 hours on Pro.
  • Deep links. Supported Spotify URLs for tracks, albums, playlists and artists can try to open the Spotify app on mobile instead of the browser. Opening the app is not guaranteed and does not mean a play or a save. Free includes one deep link; Pro has no cap. See deep links explained.
  • Time-locked blocks (Pro). A link block can be scheduled to appear at a set time. Until then, visitors see a "Coming soon" card with the go-live date and time, and the title and URL stay hidden. A block can also expire, after which visitors see a "No longer available" card.
  • Analytics and UTM reports. Free analytics cover the last 30 days. Pro adds unlimited history and UTM campaign reports, which only count visits that carry a utm_campaign tag. See UTM links for your link in bio.

ManyLinks does not run pre-save campaigns or build pages that let fans choose a streaming service. Use a smart-link service or Spotify's own Countdown Pages for those, then link to them from your ManyLinks page.

A Q4 release plan that uses both

As soon as you have a release date

  1. Create the pre-save. Use your smart-link service, or a Spotify Countdown Page if you qualify. As of October 2026, Spotify's help center says Countdown Pages are only for new, original albums and EPs, singles are not eligible, and you need at least 3,000 monthly active listeners. The help page has shown different thresholds in different versions, so confirm in your Spotify for Artists dashboard. Spotify says pre-savers get a push notification on release day and the release is added to their library (Spotify for Artists help).
  2. Put the pre-save link at the top of your bio page as a large block with the cover art. Keep tickets, merch and booking below it with clear labels.
  3. Tag the bio link per platform with UTM parameters, for example utm_source=instagram&utm_campaign=winter-ep, so you can compare where visits come from.

Before November 6

  • Spotify Wrapped message. Spotify's "Get ready for 2026 Wrapped" page says all artists can submit a vertical video message of 30 seconds or less by November 6. Upload it from Spotify for Artists on desktop: open the Video & Visuals tab and click the Wrapped banner (Spotify for Artists, as of October 2026).
  • Bandcamp Fridays. Bandcamp's remaining 2026 dates are November 6 and December 4. Bandcamp says it waives its revenue share on those days "so artists and labels receive more of the money from every purchase" (Bandcamp, as of October 2026). Add a Bandcamp block that day, or schedule one ahead of time on Pro.

Release day

  • Schedule the release block in advance. Add a Spotify or smart-link block for the released version and set it to appear at release time. Until then, fans see "Coming soon" with the date. The schedule is one moment for every visitor, not a separate time per time zone, so pick the time you want.
  • Retire the pre-save block. Set it to expire at the same moment. Expired blocks show "No longer available" rather than disappearing, so delete it once the release block is live.
  • Check the page signed out on a phone. Confirm the new block shows, the artwork is right and the link opens where you expect.

After release

Keep the smart link running for per-service reporting and for playlists, press and ads that need a single release URL. Move the release down on your bio page when the next campaign or tour takes the top spot.

Each tool sees a different part of the journey, so keep the numbers separate:

  • Smart-link dashboard: which services fans picked and how many pre-saved.
  • Bio page analytics: how many people visited, where they came from and which blocks they clicked. See link in bio analytics.
  • Spotify for Artists and your distributor: streams, saves and listeners.

A click on your bio page is not a stream, and a pre-save is not a purchase. Comparing them side by side tells you where fans drop off; adding them together does not.

The short version

Use a smart link or pre-save page for each release. Keep a link-in-bio page as the permanent link in your profiles, with the current smart link at the top. On ManyLinks, Spotify blocks show the music, deep links can open the Spotify app, and Pro adds scheduled and expiring blocks, unlimited deep links and UTM reports.
